Torque-to-yield bolts cannot be reused

These bolts are tightened past their elastic limit on purpose — that is how they hold a consistent clamp load. Once stretched, they do not return to length, and reusing them means less clamp and a rod that works loose.

If the manual gives a torque plus an angle, the bolt is torque-to-yield. Replace it every time the rod is opened.

Fracture-split rods

Modern rods are not cut in half — they are cracked along a pre-scored line so the two halves fit back together with a jagged, self-locating surface. That gives better alignment and load capacity than a machined joint.

Because the joint is matched, the cap and rod are a pair. Never swap caps between rods, and never file the joint faces.

Small-end bush and pin fit

A worn small-end bush causes a knock that sounds like a main bearing but is lighter and sharper. Check bush clearance and pin diameter, and confirm the oil hole lines up after pressing a new bush.

A misaligned oil hole starves the pin and destroys both parts within hours.
