Confirm this part for my machine
Machine model and part number are what let us confirm fitment in writing. Message is optional.
Overview
Fitment Note: Confirmed by the removed camshaft number and the engine model. Fit new camshaft bushings and tappets; follow the cam break-in procedure after assembly.
Engine camshaft for the Caterpillar 3066 / S6K / C6.4 diesel engine family (also 3064 / C4.2) — a direct replacement for the original Caterpillar 5I-8068. Forged steel / cast iron, heat-treated and with precision-ground cam lobes. Driven by the crankshaft, the camshaft opens the intake and exhaust valves at the correct timing through its lobes and drives the fuel system.
The camshaft is a core engine component. Typical failures are wear, scoring and pitting of the lobes and journals, causing valve timing drift, reduced valve lift, power loss, smoke and abnormal noise; in severe cases a valve-to-piston contact. It is normally replaced together with the camshaft bushings and tappets during an overhaul.
Supplied as a single unit. Confirm the removed part number and the engine model before ordering; fit new camshaft bushings, check end-float and run-out, and follow the manufacturer's cam / tappet break-in procedure (break-in oil / short first oil-change interval).
Key Features
Direct replacement for CAT 5I-8068
Engine camshaft, heat-treated with precision-ground lobes
Correct valve timing and lift for the 3066 / S6K / C6.4 family
Valve-timing drift, reduced valve lift, power loss, black / white smoke, rough idle and camshaft-side noise; worn lobes can cause piston-to-valve contact.
Installation Tips
1. Check the camshaft bushings and tappets; replace them as a set.
2. Lubricate the lobes and journals with the specified assembly lube / oil.
3. Check end-float and run-out to specification after fitting.
4. Follow the manufacturer's cam / tappet break-in procedure (break-in oil, first oil change after the initial running period).
5. Re-set valve clearance after the engine is assembled.
