Intake valve (144 mm long, 34.5 mm head OD) for the Caterpillar C4.2 / C6.4 diesel engine — a direct replacement for the original Caterpillar 294-1684. It opens to admit air into the combustion chamber and closes against the valve seat to seal it. Pairs with the exhaust valve 294-1685.
Valves are wear items: the seat face burns or pits, the stem wears in the guide and the head can tulip or crack, leading to loss of compression, hard starting, misfire and power loss. Replaced at head overhaul or whenever the valve face is no longer sealing.
Supplied as one valve. Confirm the engine model and the valve dimensions before ordering; check the guide clearance and seat contact and lap/replace the seat as needed.
