Aftermarket intake valve seat insert (valve seat ring) for the Caterpillar 3066 / S6K / C6.4 diesel engine family (also 3064 / C4.2) — a direct replacement for the original Caterpillar 5I-8011. Cast steel alloy, pressed into the cylinder-head intake seat bore to give the intake valve its sealing face.
The valve seat insert provides the sealing face for the valve. The intake seat runs cooler than the exhaust seat but still wears and recedes in service. Typical failures are a worn seat face, a recessed seat, tightening valve clearance, low compression and a misfire on one cylinder. It is normally replaced together with the valves and guides during a cylinder-head overhaul.
Supplied as a single insert (cast steel alloy). Confirm the removed part number and the seat bore / outer diameter before ordering; chill and press the insert in squarely, then cut the seat face to the valve angle and check concentricity with the guide.
