Aftermarket exhaust valve seat insert (valve seat ring) for the Caterpillar 3066 / S6K / C6.4 diesel engine family (also 3064 / C4.2) — a direct replacement for the original Caterpillar 212-8474. Cast steel alloy, pressed into the cylinder-head exhaust seat bore to give the exhaust valve its sealing face.
The exhaust seat insert takes the full heat of the exhaust gas and the hammering of the valve, so it burns and recedes faster than the intake seat. Typical failures are a burnt seat face, a recessed seat, valve clearance that keeps closing up, low compression and a misfire on one cylinder; in severe cases the valve burns. It is normally replaced together with the valves and guides during a cylinder-head overhaul.
Supplied as a single insert (cast steel alloy). Confirm the removed part number and the seat bore / outer diameter before ordering; chill and press the insert in squarely, then cut the seat face to the valve angle and check concentricity with the guide.

Common Fault Symptoms
Valve not sealing / leaking, low compression, valve clearance that keeps closing up, a misfire on one cylinder, a recessed or burnt exhaust seat; a burnt valve in severe cases.
Installation Tips
1. Remove the old seat insert; clean and check the head seat bore for size and runout.
2. Chill / cool the insert and press it in squarely; do not damage the seat face.
3. Cut the seat face to the correct valve angle and check concentricity with the guide.
4. Lap the valve to the new seat and re-set valve clearance to specification.
