Engine cylinder head gasket (head gasket) for the Caterpillar 3066 / S6KT / C6.4 diesel engine family (also 3064 / C4.2) — a direct replacement for the original Caterpillar 222-8331. Non-asbestos, multi-layer steel composite, fitted between the cylinder block and the cylinder head to seal the combustion chambers, coolant passages and oil galleries; two pieces per engine.
The head gasket is a critical sealing component. Typical failures are blow-out and burning under high temperature and pressure, causing gas and fluid leaks — abnormal coolant consumption, milky (emulsified) oil, bubbles in the radiator, low compression, power loss and white smoke, and in severe cases oil and coolant mixing. Normally replaced during cylinder-head work, an overhaul or after an overheating event.
Supplied as a single gasket (two per engine; replacing them as a pair is recommended). Confirm the removed part number and the engine model before ordering; clean the block and head faces and check flatness, tighten the head bolts in the specified sequence and torque / angle stages, and replace the head bolts as they are single-use items.
Abnormal coolant consumption, milky / emulsified oil, bubbles in the radiator or overheating, white smoke, low compression, power loss, hard cold starting, oil and coolant mixing.
Installation Tips
1. Clean the block and head faces; check flatness and for cracks.
2. Fit the gasket dry / as specified — do not use extra sealant on MLS-type gaskets.
3. Use NEW cylinder head bolts, tighten in the specified sequence in stages to the torque + angle spec.
4. Refill with the correct coolant, warm up and check for leaks; re-check after the first heat cycle.
