Engine intake valve for the Caterpillar 3066 / S6K / C6.4 diesel engine family (also 3064 / C4.2) — a direct replacement for the original Caterpillar 212-8477. Head diameter 46 mm, stem 8 mm, overall length 134 mm, seat angle 30 degrees, heat-resistant alloy steel. It sits in the cylinder head and opens on the intake stroke to draw fresh air into the cylinder.
The intake valve is a wear item, subject to hammering against the seat and to hot gases and carbon. Typical failures are seat-face wear / burning, stem wear and poor sealing — causing low compression, power loss, hard cold starting and uneven cylinder pressures. It is normally replaced as a full set (intake and exhaust) during an overhaul, together with the seats and guides.
Supplied as a single valve (heat-resistant alloy steel). Confirm the removed part number and the dimensions (46 mm head / 8 mm stem / 134 mm overall length) before ordering; lap the valve to the seat, check the stem-to-guide clearance and re-set the valve clearance to specification.
