Aftermarket connecting rod bearing set (big-end shells) 5I-7637A1 — a direct replacement for the Caterpillar 5I-7637 rod bearing. It fits the Caterpillar 3066 / S6K / C6.4 diesel engine family (also 3064 / C4.2), commonly used on CAT 311 / 311B / 311C / 320B / 320C / 320D excavators. Standard size.
The rod bearings carry the crankshaft big-end journal of the connecting rod. When they wear, big-end clearance opens up — typical signs are a knocking under load that follows engine speed, low oil pressure, and in severe cases a spun bearing or scored crankpin. They are normally renewed together with the main bearings and thrust washers during an engine overhaul.
Bimetal construction: a steel backing with a copper-alloy (aluminium-tin / lead-bronze type) lining. Supplied as a set for the engine. Confirm the removed shell number, the crankpin size and whether standard or an undersize (0.25 / 0.50 mm) is required before ordering.
Increased big-end clearance, a knock under load that follows engine speed, low oil pressure, metal particles in the oil; severe cases show a spun bearing or scored crankpin.
Installation Tips
1. Check the crankpins for ovality, taper and scoring; regrind if required.
2. Fit the bearing shells to the rod and cap; check the locating tangs and oil holes.
3. Oil the shells, fit the rod and torque the cap bolts to specification.
4. Check the big-end clearance and rotation before final assembly.
