Piston body for Cummins NT855, NTA855, NH220, NH250 and N14 engines, replacement for part number 3051555 (CCEC). The 855 series is the main engine in Shantui SD22 / SD32 bulldozers and in a large part of the 855-powered construction and genset fleet, so this piston sees steady demand.
Technical data: bore 139.7 mm (5.5 in), overall height 159.5 mm, compression height 102.38 mm, piston pin diameter 23.65 mm, compression ratio 14.5:1. Four ring grooves — three compression and one oil — with groove widths 3.969 / 3.175 / 3.175 / 4.747 mm from the top. Single piston weight is about 5 kg.
The piston is a high-silicon eutectic aluminium alloy casting with a single-Ni cast iron insert in the top groove, a phosphated and graphite-coated skirt for a shorter run-in period, and an internal cooling gallery.
Piston and liner are matched by bore and must be replaced as a set — a piston from a different bore size will not fit. The top marking and ring groove orientation cannot be reversed, and a new pin and new circlips are mandatory: a fatigued old pin can break and destroy the block.
