Fitment Note: Confirmed by the removed guide number and the measured dimensions. Finished guide, approx. 45 mm x 8 mm ID x 13 mm OD. One guide per valve; inlet and exhaust guides may differ - tell us your engine and we confirm.
Engine valve guide (exhaust valve guide, finished) for the Caterpillar 3066 / S6K / C6.4 diesel engine family (also 3064 / C4.2) — a direct replacement for the original Caterpillar 183-8173. Approx. 45 mm long x 8 mm inner diameter x 13 mm outer diameter, alloy cast iron / bronze, pressed into the cylinder head to guide the valve stem.
The valve guide is a wear item. Typical failures are bore wear, excessive clearance, valve stem deflection and oil being drawn down past the guide (a loose guide also causes poor valve sealing and burnt valves). It is normally replaced during a cylinder-head overhaul, together with the valves and seats.
Supplied as a single finished guide (machined to size). Confirm the removed part number and the measured dimensions (length / ID / OD) before ordering; observe the correct stem-to-guide clearance, and ream the bore and check concentricity after pressing in if required.
