Standard connecting-rod bearing (69 mm outside diameter) for the Caterpillar C4.2 / C6.4 diesel engine — a direct replacement for the original Caterpillar 294-1748. It is the replaceable shell that lets the connecting rod rotate smoothly on the crankshaft journal.
Bearings wear with hours and are sensitive to oil pressure and contamination: when the oil film breaks down the shell scuffs, wears or hammers (knock) and can seize. Replaced during an overhaul or when oil pressure drops, the engine knocks or metal is found in the oil.
Supplied as one shell (two per rod). Confirm the engine model and journal size before ordering; check the crank journal and clearance, lubricate on assembly and measure clearance after fitting.
